TOPIC: High Point Scoring

How did no one finish the race on Saturday and 6 people score the best results of the season?

It would be a shame to see the end of season results determined by a non race. 12 points for not finishing seems very high. There were others on the water who scored 0 because they went over before the start of the race.

Interesting point.

I was recently bemoaning the fact that in heats 7&8 in Div 2, 3 turned up, only 2 of us chose to race and so only 2 points were available to win in each race.

It was explained to me that the aggregate is about how many boats you "beat" in any given race.

On that basis, I would have thought that with everyone, one way or another, failing to finish in your Div, nobody beat anybody.

Just a thought.

I thought that if 12 boats entered the race, the winner scores 12 points, the boats who DNF score 1 point, and the boat that DNC or DNS score 0 pts. So if no one finishes, the DNF boats get 1 point for at least starting & having a go, but definately not 12 pts!

I had a chat with Glen and it looks like a DNF will be changed to a 1 point result. That would seem a little fairer to me. Any comments?

I would agree with you Jon, 12 points for starting is a bit unfair I would think. If we were working on a low point scoring system and 12 boats started and were abandoned, would they all receive 1 point and the rest 13? Wouldn't they get 13 and the rest would get 15?

The high point scoring system gives you 1 point for every starter that you beat home + 1. That is; if 12 boat start and you win the race you beat 11 + 1 = 12 pts. If you DNF you beat 0 + 1 = 1 pt. Every boat that DNF's get the same 1 point. If one boat finishes it gets 12pt and the other 11 DNF'd boats get 1pt each. If no baots finish, every boat gets 1 pt. The reason for getting 1 pt when you DNF, is that this is better effort than not even starting. I think it is reasonably fair. If you win the well attended races, you score more pts.
Cheers.
