505 Vic States Wrap Up

Well, the 505 State Titles have been and gone. Special thanks to those crews that came from Qld, NSW and the ACT to compete. There were 5 races sailed in fantastic conditions over the two days. A bit of light, moderate and heavy. We had 10 boats in total which was pretty pleasing considering there hasn't been a 505 fleet in Victoria for about 15 years. Simon Merritt did a great job as Race Officer and now can claim to having a few gates starts under his belt in preparation for the Nationals next January. Results will be posted on the Australian 505 website at www.int505.org.au. Congratulations to Michael Quirk and Jordon Spencer (NSW) on winning the event.

I hope the club members who sailed on Saturday afternoon enjoyed seeing the 5o's in action and found the gates starts an interesting variation to the usual fixed line technique. (The 505s use gates starts in all championship events from state through to world titles.) There was plenty of interest shown by various visitors to the club in the 505 and don't be surprised if you don't start to see more sailing in club racing.

I didn't get a chance to thank all the volunteers who helped run the event but every 505 sailor who competed left with a great impression of McCrae as a sailing venue and as a well-run and friendly club. Thank you very much for making the event happen.
